I have always liked the name Bertie and I had a gt uncle called Bertie so this name continues the theme of family names into the Hermitage collection. I designed this pattern relatively quickly and it was based on an ancient fabric fragment found at the British Museum. I am always looking out for shapes and it is these collections of shapes which inspire me to design my fabrics and wallpapers. I squished the Bertie motifs all together to make a regular but yet irregular repeat pattern. There is something quite satisfying about this design and it looks quite organic, like a pomegranate head but it is not, It could appear as geometric in some ways too. This design is timeless and has that modern edge which fits into many settings. It would also look great in a room full of brown furniture and antiques.
